STEVE BRUCE HAS offered a relieving injury update on Irish-qualified striker Scott Hogan, who was stretchered off in the closing stages of recent clash against Newcastle.
It was initially feared that 24-year-old could be ruled out for the rest of the season, but the Aston Villa boss has revealed that Hogan is expected to make a return to competitive action within a month.
“He’s got a badly sprained ankle but thankfully, the ligaments aren’t torn or badly ruptured and there’s no break. We’ve had a break in that respect. Yesterday, he had the strapping on, he’s walking around in his trainers and that’s a big relief for everybody.

“When he went down and when you see people going off on a stretcher, you think that could be the season (gone) but thankfully, he should be ok in the next month or so.”
This is particularly uplifting news for the former Brentford player, considering he has already suffered two cruciate ligament injuries during in his career.
Hogan signed for Aston Villa, in a late Deadline Day deal last month. Hogan qualifies for Ireland, but has yet to make a decision on whether to declare for Martin O’Neill’s side.
